The D3 8-Quart Stock Pot: Sauté, Then Simmer, in One Pot
The All-Clad 4408 is the 8-quart stock pot with lid from the D3 tri-ply line. A wide base lets you sauté before adding liquid, and high sides slow evaporation for soups, stews and stocks. It also handles pasta, blanching and canning. The aluminum core carries heat across the bottom and up the sides, so big batches cook evenly. Oven and broiler safe to 600°F, induction ready, made in the USA.

Why an 8-Quart D3 Pot
Thin stock pots scorch the onions you start with and the beans at the bottom of the chili. A tri-ply pot spreads the heat so the bottom does not run hot.
- Wide base, high sides. Brown aromatics first, then add liquid. The tall sides slow evaporation.
- More than stock. Pasta, blanching vegetables, canning and big-batch chili.
- Loop handles. Easy to carry on and off the stove, even when full.
- Three bonded layers, rim to rim. An aluminum core sits between two layers of stainless steel and is bonded all the way up the sides, so heat spreads evenly across the base and walls.
- An 18/10 stainless cooking surface. The polished starburst interior resists sticking, cleans up easily and does not react with acidic foods.
- Works on every cooktop, including induction. The magnetic stainless exterior works on gas, electric, ceramic and induction.
- Oven and broiler safe to 600°F. Brown on the stovetop and finish in the oven in the same pan.
- Riveted stainless handles. Permanently attached with stainless rivets and contoured for a secure grip.

Use and Care
The short version. The All-Clad use and care guide has the full details.
- Preheat, then add fat. Heat the empty pan over medium for a minute or two, then add oil or butter. Stainless releases food far better once it is hot.
- Stay at medium. Bonded cookware spreads heat well, so medium does the work high heat does on a thinner pan. Save high heat for boiling water.
- Let food release. Proteins stick at first and let go once a crust forms. Wait for that before you turn them.
- Cool, then clean. Let the pan cool before it meets water. Wash with warm soapy water, and use a fine powdered cleanser and a nylon pad for stuck food or rainbow tint. Skip steel wool and bleach.
